Criticism has arisen that the current canteen at the 'Sportlycée' does not consistently meet the special nutritional requirements of its students.

Since 2006, the inter-ministerial programme Manger sainement, bouger plus ("Eat healthily, move more") has been promoting healthier lifestyles within society.

For athletes in particular, food serves as the fuel that powers their bodies. This holds particularly true for students attending Luxembourg's Sportlycée, a secondary school specifically aimed at accommodating the country's best young athletes.

However, the meals offered in the school's canteen often fail to address their specific needs, resembling standard school canteen meals found elsewhere in Luxembourg.

However, the requirements of Sportlycée students differ significantly from those of their peers. Minister of Education Claude Meisch shared his perspective on the matter, stating:

"Restopolis [editor's note: the governmental administration managing Luxembourg's school canteens] has undergone significant restructuring in recent years, offering a broader range of vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as an increased focus on organic and locally sourced ingredients, which were among the priorities. Today, Restopolis provides a variety of products and menus tailored to the needs of students with dietary restrictions or preferences due to religious or medical reasons. Restopolis has made considerable progress and, in my opinion, can effectively cater to the needs of athletes at the Sportlycée."

According to Meisch, the Ministry of Education and Restopolis remain attentive to developments in this area.

Many of those involved, however, agree that it would be preferable for the Sportlycée to have its own canteen.
