In the run-up to the elections, Luxembourg residents can expect a barrage of communication from political parties seeking to win their vote.
To keep a clear overview among the multitude of leaflets and promises, as well as posing its own questions to politicians, the Grand Duchy’s Centre for Political Education (Zentrum fir politesch Bildung)” has come up with a solution.
Voters can submit their own questions to the Smartwielen.lu website, but it is important to be specific, clarifies director Marc Schoentgen. “It is about working out the differences between the parties and candidates. Some will of course have similar positions. Thematically, the categories will be similar to 2018, including topics such as housing, mobility, climate, or health.”
Participants may also propose their own categories. The choice of questions and analysis of compatibility will remain anonymous and neutral.
Pit Weber, who is responsible for the site, explains the tool has been designed to permit voters to submit their own queries alongside the Centre and the University of Luxembourg, in order to create a full catalogue.
No user data will be saved.
Questions can be submitted until 5 July. After that, the Centre will send questionnaires to the political parties and the candidates.
Once the replies have been compiled, the site will permit users to compare parties and candidates to see who best matches with their ideas, from 8 September onwards.
