Ministers Asselborn and Bofferding were confirmed as lead candidates for the southern constituency list of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) following an internal vote in Rumelange on Tuesday evening.
The southern district committee of the LSAP convened in Rumelange on Tuesday evening to vote on the candidate list for their constituency. The proposed list was accepted with 90% of the votes.
Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn and Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding will be the lead candidates in the parliamentary election. They will be joined by Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy Georges Engel.
Further returning candidates are MPs Mars Di Bartolomeo, Dan Kersch, Dan Biancalana, Simone Asselborn-Bintz, Lydia Mutsch, and faction president Yves Cruchten.
Also on the LSAP south list are Steinfort Mayor Sammy Wagner, Dippach Mayor Manon Bei-Roller, Roeser Mayor Tom Jungen, and Pétange Mayor Romain Mertzig.
Further people with political experience running for office are Differdange alderman Thierry Wagner, Dudelange alderwoman Claudia Dall'Agnol, Schifflange alderman Carlo Feiereisen, Rumelange alderman Jimmy Skenderovic, Esch-sur-Alzette councillors Liz Braz and Enesa Agovic, and Differdange councillor Zenia Charlé.
The youngest candidates on the list are Max Leners, Max Molitor, and Isabella Golinska.
The average age of candidates is 46 years. Nine women and 14 men are running for office.
In the 2004 election, the LSAP received 32% and eight seats in the south. However, the party lost shares in the 2018 election, receiving just 22% and six seats.
