It couldn’t be easier to go for a dip in Luxembourg this summer as the bathing season is in full swing.
In addition to outdoor swimming pools, the Grand Duchy has several ponds and lakes available to swimmers in Weiswampach, Haute-Sûre, and Remerschen, with a fourth added to the line-up this year in Echternach.
Use the map below to find your ideal swimming spot this summer. Swimming pools are displayed in blue, lakes and ponds in orange.
Just be sure to be safe and stay away from blue algae. The best way to stay informed is by checking www.cyanowatch.lu as well as water quality reports.
The Upper-Sûre lake is considered to have “excellent” water quality according to recent measurements. The popular lake has a number of swimming beaches, situated at the following:

The Remerschen ponds, or ‘Baggerweieren’ as they are known locally, have four swimming zones, three of which have “excellent” water quality for 2023. With catering available, as well as aquatic equipment for hire, the ponds are perfect for escaping the heat.
Pets are welcome to cool off too, with a beach specially designated for dogs. However, the ponds require paid entry and capacity is limited to 3,000 people.

The two lakes in Weiswampach accommodate swimmers and fishing enthusiasts alike. Sports such as swimming, boating, and windsurfing are permitted at the lower lake, bordered by a large lawn for sunbathing. Fishing is also permitted and pedal boats are available for hire on site.

Finally, Echternach lake opened to swimmers for the first time on 26 May. With pedal boats and fishing spots available, the lake also boasts a 375 hectare forest in its surroundings, with plenty of pedestrian walking trails. The water quality has been designated “good” for the lake’s first swimming season.
