Seizing the opportunity at the renowned Paris Air Show, Luxair confirmed on Wednesday morning that it had secured an order for four Boeing 737-7s from the US manufacturer.
This decision follows their previous order for four 737-8 aircraft in March 2023. Consequently, Luxair now boasts a total of “eight firm orders” for Boeing’s short and medium-haul 737s. In fact, the airline proudly declared its status as the European launch customer for this particular aircraft model.
In addition to the newly ordered planes, Luxair has arranged to lease two 737-8s, scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2023, prior to the direct delivery of their first 737-8.
Luxair CEO Gilles Feith highlighted the company’s commitment to growth and stressed that the agreement for the four Boeing 737-7s is a strategic move aimed at securing a long-term future for the national airline. Feith stated, “this type of aircraft is a perfect match for Luxair and will meet the requirements of the market.”
The Boeing 737 has a capacity of 160 passengers, is quieter and allows for a considerable reduction in fuel consumption, according to Luxair.
Luxair currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, including eight Next-Generation 737s. However, the airline has recently faced challenges, not least because of the numerous delays experienced by passengers.
In addition, internal issues concerning staff management have come to light, with some employees expressing discontentment and predicting a difficult summer for the company.
