A number of municipalities in Luxembourg have reported instances where citizens who had requested postal votes did not receive their voting documents.

According to information obtained by RTL, these incidents appear to be isolated and have occurred across various municipalities. While the impact has been relatively minor in Esch-sur-Alzette and Dudelange, nine cases have been confirmed in Kayl.

The underlying cause of this issue is believed to be an IT problem that arose on 4 April at the Intercommunal Syndicate for IT Management (SIGI). SIGI is responsible for forwarding completed postal vote requests from myguichet.lu to the respective municipalities.

Upon being contacted for clarification, the municipal syndicate acknowledged a temporary glitch, which was promptly resolved. The data was also successfully restored.

However, further investigation by SIGI revealed that some individuals who had completed the process of requesting a postal vote via myguichet.lu had failed to submit their completed dossier on time. These individuals inadvertently neglected to press the final submit button.

Individuals who did not receive their mail-in ballot papers are unable to vote by mail. Nonetheless, all eligible voters still have the option to cast their vote at a polling station in their respective municipality. Therefore, those who have been affected by the issue of missing ballot papers but are currently in the country during the election weekend or have the necessary time available can still exercise their right to vote.
