'Micheville Connection'Bypass to open on Whit Monday

Developments are underway on the road leading to the Raemerich roundabout, as the construction of the Micheville Connection bypass reaches its final stages.

Along with the installation of the last guard rails, workers from the Bridges and Roads Authority are now meticulously painting lines on the road. Additionally, heavy noise-reducing plates are being affixed to the tunnel walls, signalling that the project is entering its home stretch. These final touches have been in progress since 18 March.

The 2.5-kilometre long Micheville Connection bypass will be opened on Whit Monday, 29 May. Within this stretch, motorists will encounter two bridges and a 1.3-kilometre tunnel.

Of the four lanes within the bypass, two will be accessible on Whit Monday: one leading towards France and another heading towards Luxembourg. By the end of July, just in time for the collective holidays, commuters will be able to use all four lanes.

Initiated towards the end of 2017, the construction of this bypass aimed to establish a direct connection between Esch-sur-Alzette and the French towns of Villerupt and Audin-le-Tiche. Hopes run high that the completion of the Micheville Connection bypass will alleviate the chronic traffic congestion in Esch and Belvaux, while simultaneously improving the flow at the Raemerich roundabout.

After the end of the construction works, motorists will be able to drive at 90 kilometres per hour on the Micheville Connection bypass.
