Almost 20% of residents without Luxembourgish nationality registered to vote in the upcoming municipal elections.

In absolute numbers, there are now 18,000 more voters than in 2017, according to the political director of Asti, Sérgio Ferreira.

“But for Asti it is also important to say that the effort must be permanent. That means in our eyes, democracy and political participation for citizens should be a permanent issue. For us, it is now time for a proper discussion regarding the potential for automatic registration of our foreign citizens.”

Data showed that more and more people registered only in the last few months. Ferreira said this showed that the deadline for registration should be moved closer to the election date in future.
