Municipal ElectionsNearly 20% of foreign residents registered to vote

19.8% of non-Luxembourg nationals in the Grand Duchy have registered to elect their local representatives in the municipal elections on 11 June.

In total, 50,084 non-Luxembourg nationals have registered to vote in the local elections. The Ministry of Family Affairs released these figures on Wednesday morning, after the registration deadline expired on Monday.

In 2017, 22.8% of non-Luxembourg nationals registered to vote in the communal elections.

“Of course, the goal remains to reach 100%, but we knew from the start that we would not achieve this,” Cahen conceded.

Despite this, the Minister stated, “we are very, very happy and extremely proud to have exceeded the previous rate.” Cahen noted that in 2017, the registration rate was 22.8%, which, of course, only included residents who had resided in Luxembourg for more than five years. “If we only look at that same group this year, the registration rate is 23.6%,” she said.

Bech had the highest registration rate, with almost half of all foreign residents registering to vote in the municipal elections. In contrast, with only 13%, the lowest registration rate is recorded in Parc Hosingen.
