In the newest edition of the 'World Happiness Report', Luxembourg has fallen three spots and now ranks in 9th place.

20 March marks 'International Day of Happiness' and US researchers have used this opportunity to publish the 2023 edition of the 'World Happiness Report'.

Luxembourg ranks 9th in this year's edition, down three spots from the last ranking.

To compile the report, researchers calculated people's average happiness sentiment with the help of six factors: social support, income, health, personal freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption. These factors were used in a survey carried out by the Gallup Institute.

The latest data for country rankings from 2020 through 2022 has shown a large amount of year-to-year consistency in the way individuals score their lives in different countries. A large gap still remains between the top ranking countries and their lower ranking counterparts.

Countries in the top ten spots are close together in their scores, with a gap of just 0.7 points separating the first and tenth positions in the rankings.

Luxembourg placed 9th in this year's 'World Happiness Report' , with Finland, Denmark and Iceland nabbing the top three spots.

In 2022, Eurostat reported that Luxembourgers had among the highest self-reported level of life satisfaction among all EU citizens. Luxembourgers recorded a score of 7.6/10 in terms of "overall life satisfaction," ranking them 0.3 points ahead of the EU average sitting at 7.3 out of ten.
