According to a statement from the Ministry for Mobility and Public Works, the average speed cameras will measure motorists’ tempo throughout the tunnels on the A7 motorway.

The speed limit here is 90 km/h. In case of a speed excess below 100 km/h, 3 km/h are subtracted from the measured average speed. If a motorist drives faster than 100 km/h, a grace number equivalent to 3% of the measured tempo is subtracted.

The cameras will also be able to change their range according to speed limitation adjustments, which might be put in place for construction sites.

Luxembourg already has two average speed cameras, one on the N11 between Waldhof and Gonderange and one in the Markusberg tunnel on the A13 motorway.
