Wiseler intends on focusing on his work as party president and the general elections on 8 October. The former Luxembourg City alderman thereby put an end to speculations that he might want to run for office in the capital again.
Wiseler’s spouse, Isabel Wiseler-Lima, has also decided not to run in the municipal elections. In 2017, she gathered the second most votes on the CSV list in the capital and initially filled the role of alderman. However, she stepped back from that position after being elected to the European Parliament in 2019 and has since been a municipal councillor.
While the CSV thus has to do without two of their most prominent names, the party can still rely on first alderman Serge Wilmes as their lead candidate. He will be joined by new CSV member Marceline Goergen, who is currently an independent member of the Luxembourg City council.
In 2017, Goergen ran as a member of the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) and managed to gather the second most votes for the party. However, she decided to leave the ADR in April last year. After Roy Reding stepped down from the council in November 2022, Goergen took over and refused to give up her seat to an ADR member.
The complete CSV list with all 27 candidates running for office in the capital will be published on 1 March.
