Lenert made the announcement at the LSAP’s New Year’s party on Friday evening.

The deputy prime minister took over from Etienne Schneider in February 2020, a few weeks before the coronavirus pandemic hit Europe. Since then, she has served as Minister for Health, Minister for Social Security, and Deputy Prime Minister.

Lenert made major gains in the Politmonitor poll due to her successful handling of the pandemic, ending at the very top of the list.

Since then, she has been the most popular and trusted politician in Luxembourg in the eyes of the public. Nevertheless, it was not clear until Friday evening that she would be a candidate in the October parliamentary elections as head of the LSAP list.
