The Luxemburger Wort newspaper published an article by Kersch on Saturday in which the former deputy Prime Minister, and current Minister of Labour expressed his dissatisfaction with Bettel’s statements on tax reform.
Kersch said there had been difficulties for the past decade in getting the DP to agree with measures for tax justice. He claimed an undifferentiated tax reform, as promised by the DP, had not been possible from the start, even without the compounding issues of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Kersch also took aim at Bettel’s comments on shortening working hours. In the New Year’s interview with RTL, the Prime Minister said there was no question of shortening working hours, and suggested this should be negotiated between employers and employees.
Kersch called this proposal “unrealistic” and likened it to “asking a mouse to negotiate with a tomcat.”
The minister wrote that shorter working hours, coupled with more flexible working patterns, could feasibly improve working conditions, thus making Luxembourg a more attractive destination for employees.
