The members of the new authority were sworn in by Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot, after the Chamber of Deputies passed the new competition law in November.

On 1 January, the Competition Council will become a public institution and will change its name to Competition Authority. Pierre Barthelmé will continue to serve as president.

The Competition Authority will continue to operate from its current offices. The new law grants the authority additional means to ensure compliance with Luxembourg's competition rules, which include, for instance, a ban on price fixing or dominant market positions.
