The municipality of Luxembourg City has announced plans to reduce energy consumption during this year's festive season.

Alderman Patrick Goldschmidt provided insight into the City's plans of reducing energy consumption while still celebrating the annual 'Winterlights' event: "We are going to have Christmas lights. The service team has already sat down with the Mayor and myself to discuss ways of reducing energy consumption. We can do that by reducing duration and only having lights in the busiest streets."

Goldschmidt also acknowledged that the amount of energy is still going to be substantial, but drew attention to the fact that all of the City's Christmas lights are LEDs, which consume less power.

However, it seems as though the ice skating rink will not be set up this year. "I think it would be irresponsible to hold on to the ice rink in light of the current situation", said Goldschmidt.
