The former Luxembourg City councillor and MP has issued a written statement to denounce the new mobility plan, which he believes to endanger more than just a few trees at the border of the park.

Although he no longer holds a political office nor a membership with the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), René Kollwelter is going on the offensive as he sees the tram endangering Luxembourg City's municipal park. Since no final decision on the matter has yet been taken, the former City councillor and MP has issued a written statement to call for the full preservation of the national monument.

In the statement, Kollwelter further expresses fears that not only the trees along Avenue de la Porte-Neuve, but even parts of the Kinnekswiss might have to be sacrificed for the tram.

According to Kollwelter, the national mobility plan, on which the Chamber will vote at the beginning of next year, advocates for a direct tram route between the Schuman roundabout and Hamilius square, no matter what lies in between. He clearly denounces this plan and ensures that other citizens of the capital have done the same.

Having worked on the Luxembourg City municipal council for 24 years, Kollwelter thinks that it is impossible to achieve success as long as the same party runs both the government and the capital. He also blamed his former party, the LSAP, for not actively working against what he considers a nonsensical mobility plan.
