
The agreement will be in place until the end of 2024 and guarantees the continuity of Guardian’s manufacturing site in Bascharage, where 400 people are working. The plan also regulates that the reduction of work hours cannot surpass 1,700 hours per employee per year.
In the past couple of years, Guardian has repeatedly made the news by reducing jobs and creating social conflicts that put the future of the Luxembourgish manufacturing sites in question. Last year, Guardian and the government announced that a new production line is to be created at the Bascharage site, which is set to launch next year.
Webasto will take over Carlex Luxembourg, a glass manufacturer in the automobile industry.
500 people work at the Carlex site in Grevenmacher, and thanks to the agreement, their future has been secured, a statement notes.
The Grevenmacher site has existed for 30 years. It first belonged to the American group Guardian and was taken over by Carlex in 2014. The new name will be Webasto Luxembourg S.A.
The German company is one of the biggest car parts supplier in the world and is also known for its heating and cooling systems.
