According to a recent report by the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR), there are a total of 162,000 connections in Luxembourg.

Landline phones, on the other hand, have been out of fashion for years. According to Marc Kohl, Head of the Statistical Service, demand has continued to decline after a brief uptick during the pandemic.

On average, people spent the most money per month on internet. The cost of using mobile internet on a smartphone is around €23. However, because the actual amount depends on the type of subscription, more than half of all residents spend less than €20 each month.

ILR Director Luc Tapella stressed that Luxembourg has "an efficient telecommunications network". "Substantial investments" are being made, according to Tapella, and "have only accelerated as a result of the pandemic," notably due to the increase in remote work.

People, on average, pay for more data volume than they require, according to the study. Tapella believes that this is an area where collaborating with operators to identify how much data people actually use could be beneficial.
