The latest Covid bill was introduced in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday, with a provision to end the mask mandate on public transport.
The new bill was first announced by Minister of Health Paulette Lenert last week and will replace the current Covid law, which expires at the end of June.
The explanatory statement acknowledges that the health crisis may not have ended yet, but that the Covid situation has stabilised throughout Europe, especially as severe complications from the disease are becoming increasingly rare.
Luxembourg currently has around 400 cases a day, with 83% of residents over 18 vaccinated, and a number of effective antiviral treatments available, such as Paxlovid.
Vulnerable people are still advised to wear an FFP2 mask in crowds.
The medical council has given a favourable opinion of the changes, especially considering there is no mask mandate for indoor events over 100 people anymore, and countries such as France and Switzerland have also dropped the mask mandate on public transport.
