The incident took place on the N2 (Val de Hamm) between the Irrgarten roundabout and Pulvermuhl, close to Rue des Alouettes. Three people were confirmed to have been injured as a result of the crash.
According to police reports, a motorist ended up on the wrong side of the road for unexplained reasons, colliding with an oncoming school bus. The force of the impact sent the car back into the other lane, where it collided with a second bus, which was not carrying passengers at the time.
The police confirmed two young people had suffered minor injuries and were brought to the paediatric unit at the CHL. The driver of the car was also taken to hospital for treatment, while the heavily damaged car was towed away.
At the time of writing, the road had been closed to other vehicles. Traffic was diverted via the CR225/ Rue Haute and Rue des Peupliers.
Traffic jams formed on the N2 as far back as Sandweiler roundabout, partially blocking junctions from the A1 motorway from Trier as well. Motorists were advised to exercise caution and leave space for emergency vehicles.
