The government announced on Thursday that it would soon stop publishing regular figures on the coronavirus pandemic.

Is the pandemic finally behind us? Looking at the government, several indicators are leaning in that direction.

This Thursday, the Ministry of Health announced that it would soon discontinue the daily publication monitoring the pandemic. From 16 May the daily infection report will no longer be published due to "the current status of the pandemic and the stable situation at hospital level".

In any case, the government had not waited to outline a long-awaited way out of the crisis: Most Covid restrictions were lifted in March.

Does this mean that we should neglect the virus?

Not quite. Although it causes milder symptoms (hospital admissions have declined), the Omicron variant is still circulating and infecting hundreds of people every day: 4,287 cases were recorded in the week of 25 April to 1 May. And some restrictions apply until 30 June:

  • Compulsory wearing of masks during transport
  • Isolation in case of viral infection,
  • CovidCheck certificate (or compulsory self-test) for consultations or treatment and wearing a mask in a hospital setting.
