Dairy farmers belonging to the organic farming cooperative Biog proceeded down the capital's streets with models of cows on their way to meet with the Minister of Agriculture.

The procession formed at 11.30 on Thursday morning, with participants marching from the Glacis to the Ministry of Agriculture's headquarters at Place Clairefontaine, where representatives were due to meet with Minister Claude Haagen.

The purpose of the demonstration was to raise awareness for the efforts made by organic breeders and farmers, to ensure their work was valued. Biog said these efforts were currently not assisted by grants or public subsidies, nor through product pricing.

The cooperative added that organic dairy farming was not a climate killer, but in fact helped to relieve effects on the atmosphere.
