After a pandemic-related hiatus, the ‘Farm in the City’ event returned to Place de la Constitution this weekend.
Christian Hahn provided insight on the nature of the project: “We want to show how production works, but also how produce travels from farm to table. All the food that is offered here, like soup, BBQ, or Gromperekichelcher (Luxembourgish potato cakes), comes from the region.”
Farmers’ representative Tom Leonardy talked about the struggles that the agricultural sector has endured since the beginning of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine: “With Covid, we basically had to rethink our entire distribution process as the local food service sector almost collapsed. We were confident that the situation was finally about to change, and now we have a catastrophic war in Ukraine.”
Francis Meyers expects there to be impacts on food prices come autumn: “Animal fodder has become extremely expensive, but that is not the only issue. The fertiliser we use is primarily made up of raw materials from Russia, including gas, which means that prices are three to four times as high as they used to be.”
