While the mood in the hospitality business remains dire, the Horesca Federation remains hopeful that the sector will find its way out of the crisis at some point, Secretary General François Koepp stated.
Luxembourg's hospitality sector is facing multiple challenges at the moment, including high energy prices, rising food prices, and several wage indexations in the span of just a few months.
Speaking to our colleagues from RTL Radio, the Secretary General of the Horesca Federation, François Koepp, stated that while the situation continues to be discouraging, the Federation remains hopeful that the sector will manage to find its way out of the crisis.
Business owners try to avoid passing on price increases to consumers, but at some point this will simply be impossible, Koepp explained, pointing out that the price of beef alone increased by 30%.
On a positive note, more and more people are starting to visit restaurants and bars again, according to Koepp, who also hopes for a successful tourist season. Nevertheless, Koepp also acknowledges that many people are still afraid of contracting Covid-19.
Regarding the ongoing tripartite, Koepp stated that employers will support the agreement proposed by the government because it would give business owners a clear idea of how costs are going to develop in the future, which the Horesca Secretary General described as "extremely important".
