18 out of 40 patients at Steinfort clinic's geriatric rehabilitation service are currently in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.
The clinic's management confirmed this information upon request, clarifying that the patients in question were asymptomatic.
Visits to the hospital were put on hold last Monday. Some of the equipment is out of action as a precautionary measure, while patients are continuing to receive individual care in their rooms.
Hospital management seemed at a loss to explain how the virus has spread so quickly through the ward. A spokesperson said staff and patients were being tested daily and they hoped the peak of the infection wave had now passed.
The geriatric rehabilitation centre at Steinfort hospital can accommodate over-65s hoping to get back on their feet through targeted therapies, with 40 beds available. The average stay lasts around 30 days and the service works closely with the CHL in Luxembourg City to manage patient care. At the time of reporting, it is not yet known when visitors will be permitted at the clinic once again.
