The Automobile Club Luxembourg provides road assistance 24/7 to help out stranded motorists both in Luxembourg and abroad with the help of partner organisations.
ACL recently published their annual report, which documents a number of interesting figures. For instance, in 88% of cases, “ACL employees were able to solve the problem at the scene.” The organisation’s service vehicles are equipped with a number of tools that allow them to tackle repairs on location.
ACL officials underlined that contrary to popular believe, they are also able to recharge batteries of fully electric vehicles. Furthermore, a number of special service vehicles have been made available to transport mobile charging stations.
In case a vehicle cannot be repaired on location, ACL offers their members to tow the vehicle to their repair shop of choice, rather than to the closest one, as other organisations tend to do.
In 2021, the ACL ‘Assistance Center’ received close to 148,000 calls, an increase of almost 26% compared to the previous year. However, it has to be noted that during the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, road traffic experienced a temporary yet significant decrease.
A similar trend can also be observed in the number of towed vehicles: 26,995 operations on Luxembourgish territory (+25.5%) and 1,519 on European grounds through partner organisations (+25%). Over the course of the year, 17,671 cases requiring road assistance occurred in Luxembourg, while 1,391 were registered across Europe.
ACL service vehicles are also able to provide assistance to large vehicles of up to seven tonnes. Their own fleet includes 30 vehicles, which covered 1,403,420 kilometres to help out ACL members in 2021. This number equals 35 rounds around the globe.
