1 January fell on a Saturday, but don’t worry: the Luxembourg Labour Code states that employees may benefit from a compensatory day of leave that can be used within three months of when a public holiday falls on a weekend.

In 2022, there are five weekends that extend to three days: Easter (Monday, 18 April), Europe Day (Monday, 9 May), Whit Monday (6 June), Assumption (Monday, 15 August), and Boxing Day (26 December).

Then there are three holiday dates that, with a day off before or after, can connect to a longer weekend: Ascension Day (Thursday, 26 May), National Day (Thursday, 23 June) and All Saint’s Day (Tuesday, 1 November).

So make sure to plan smartly in 2022 and hand in your holiday requests well in advance!
