Nora Back, the president of the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL), stressed on Tuesday afternoon that while the OGBL does not necessarily approve of a generalised CovidCheck regime at the workplace, the union respects the government's decisions and the responsibility it took on faced with the current figures.

These are "tough decisions" but another lockdown would have far more devastating consequences for workers, Back stated. The country is at risk of drifting off in the wrong direction, with the violence during Saturday's protests representing a new low, according to the OGBL president.

The trade union welcomes the fact that, in contrast to the Covid-19 law from 18 October, an actual social dialogue took place. There is still enough time to discuss the last remaining questions and how to actually implement the '3G' regime at the workplace, seeing as the new measure will only enter into force on 15 January.

For the OGBL, the top priority remains that no worker must lose their job because of a missing CovidCheck, Back stressed. Workers must also be guaranteed access to social security at all times, the OGBL president demanded, adding that this will be enshrined into law with the new bill.
