After a tumultuous Christmas last year, the Luxembourgish capital finally gets back into the festive spirit. The Winterlights have officially opened!
While in Austria a full lockdown starts again this Monday and in Bavaria and Saxony all Christmas markets have been cancelled, the Luxembourg Christmas markets, which have been so missed by residents, switched on their lights this Friday afternoon after last year's hiatus.
Thanks to CovidCheck rules, residents and visitors will be able to stroll between the chalets on the Place d'Armes, at the 'Wantermaart', 'Niklosmaart', and 'Winterkids' from this weekend until 2 January. Some of the children's activities will be accessible without CovidCheck, but masks must be worn.
Since late Friday morning, 'Winterlights on Ice', a 500m2 ice rink with a covered section, has been open to all ice skating enthusiasts at Kinnekswiss Park in the heart of Luxembourg City.
The skaters move around in a beautifully decorated environment with light sculptures and a ceiling illuminated by 20,000 LEDs.
