The petition can be signed until 20 December this year. The document argues in favour of a referendum over the first chapter of the constitutional reform, which focuses on the nation’s justice system.
On 20 October, the Chamber of Deputies approved the revision of the constitution in a first round of votes. Should the petition, which was launched by a citizen’s initiative, surpass 25,000 signatures, then a referendum will replace the Chamber’s second round of votes.
Each municipality was in charge of informing local residents about the contents of the petition, where it can be signed, and who is eligible. The municipality of Luxembourg City has already launched an information website, which summarises the most important details of the petition. However, translators are currently still working on an English translation of the site.
