The Schifflange animal rights organisation posted the news on its Facebook account, but did not reveal the exact location of the operation, which finally took place on Friday evening after six years of unsuccessful battles by another organisation.

In collaboration with the association “en Häerz fir Streuner” (“A heart for strays”), the volunteers discovered several species of animals, including twelve snakes: ten pythons and two boas.

On top of the snakes, other surprises awaited the rescuers, who arrived in large numbers to save the animals. Among the rescued animals were an African land crab, 35 cats, an American Staff dog, nine chinchillas, a corn quail and a parakeet.

But discoveries did not end there, as around 300 mice and six rats were also found in the house. The Facebook post explains that the volunteers were shocked by some of the findings.

Keeping a feral cat at home, such as the one depicted in the Facebook post, is prohibited. The association also points out that several people and associations have adopted the animals, giving them a safe space.

Finally, the association is asking for a simplification of interventions in case of suspicious discovery of animals in distress or in case of mistreatment.
