Every country in the eurozone is allowed to issue two commemorative coins per year.

These coins fulfil the same functions as regular ones. The only difference lies in the design on the national side, which can only be changed on €2 coins for commemorative purposes. Some of them therefore gain collector's value, with prices far exceeding the original value of the coin.

Here is a look at the top five most valuable €2 coins.

5 - Luxembourg

In fifth place comes the Grand Duchy.

Only 500,000 coins of this kind were made in 2010. The national side shows a unique portrait of Grand Duke Henri, as well as the coat of arms.

4 - Finland

In fourth place we find a coin from Finland, 20 times more valuable than its original.

3 - San Marino

San Marino has the third-most valuable €2 coin, the "Bartolomeo Borghesi".

2 - Vatican City

In second place is a coin from Vatican City, which shows the cathedral in Cologne.

1 - Monaco

The "Grace Kelly" coin from Monaco is considered to be the most valuable one out there.

20,001 such coins were made in 2007 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Grace Kelly, wife of Prince Rainier III.
