On Saturday, residents alerted the authorities after detecting a rainbow shimmer on the water surface.

The former Arcelor building was identified as the pollution source. During last week's floods, a petrol tank in one of the basements was damaged and leaked into the water. The spill then made its way into the river via the sewage system.

The Water Management Authority was informed and has already launched the necessary steps to resolve the issue.

The police warn people who experienced similar damage in their basements to not clear out polluted water into rivers.

In case of pollution, the Water Management Authority should be alerted via telephone (112). They will then send their staff to assess and resolve the issue.
