On Monday morning, ombudsman Claudia Monti presented her annual report to the Chamber of Deputies.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, people have been forced to rely on public institutions to a greater degree than used to be the case. The biggest section of complaints reside with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, making up a third of the total.

Another section had to do with Covid-19 and government aid. The Ministry of the Economy is alleged to have lacked flexibility in some regards while being overly rigid in others.

Another big issue remains the housing crisis with 26 complaints filed in 2020. Ombudsman Monti therefore suggested that the point system run by the Housing Fund be revised, given that it creates an unfair situation for people who lost their homes. However, she also underlined that this process has already been launched, which she highly welcomes.

Finally, she also conveyed that a total of 640 cases were resolved and closed last year. The correction rate thus stands at 82%.
