The former swimming pool in the midst of nature is finally set to be revived.

For years, the site has been abandoned while nature has slowly reclaimed the surroundings of the building located between Bonnevoie and Itzig. Now, a team of young nightlife enthusiasts have taken it upon themselves to revive the site. Our colleagues from RTL joined them to get an impression of the location.

Preparations have been underway for two and a half weeks. Where people once used to swim, they now get the chance to celebrate their after-work hours. "The River" will become an outside beach club.

Christian Blei and Jérôme Besenius are the two individuals behind the project. Both have been working in the gastronomy and nightlife sector for years. The ambitious project envisions to create a place where both young and old can come together after the pandemic.

The 2,500 square metre site is set to open by the end of the week and will be accessible throughout the summer. A beach, a lounge, and a beer garden will be set up, while the building itself will not be used. For the time being, the site will only be open until ten o'clock in the evening.

Car access will be blocked, which means that the site can best be accessed via shuttle bus from P&R Howald south. During the initial launch phase, no more than 300 guests are allowed on site, which will be open from Wednesday to Sunday. This will help locals get used to the fact that the site is being revived after twelve years, Blei explained.

Erik de Toffol, who is also involved in the project, further explained that the location is not to become a disco: "We will keep decibel levels low and respect that this is a natural zone. The idea is to create a place where people can also come with their children, not one where the music is so loud that you cannot talk to each other anymore."
