With temperatures steadily on the rise and Meteolux issuing a yellow alert for today, it's important to keep a few things in mind.

These high temperatures came rather suddenly this year, which makes it all the more important to keep in mind how to stay safe in the sun.

For humans

Don't spend too much time in direct sunlight - a little goes a long way -  and if you're going outside, do remember to put on sunscreen and wear protective clothing. Naturally you should also remember to stay hydrated, and it's a good idea to bring water with you if heading outside.

Closing the shutters at home will also help keep the heat out, which can be of benefit both to your own sanity, and your pets' health. As for work, it's worth remembering that employers do have certain obligations as the weather heats up.

And, of course, a visit to one of Luxembourg's rooftop terraces could be in order.. or perhaps a pool.

Pets

The basics here should go without saying: make sure they have ample access to shade and water, and don't leave them locked in cars for any period of time. Cars heat up very quickly, even if you're just popping out for a quick errand.

Walks in the forest are great as there is ample shade and no tarmac/asphalt, which can get very hot and burn your pets' feet. Where that's not an option, it's best to walk them early in the morning and late in the evening, with a quick visit or two to the garden during the day. Same as for humans, it's a smashing idea to bring some water with you for your animal companion(s), regardless of where you're going.
