Elevate your dining experience at one of the Grand Duchy's rooftop terrace eateries. We took a look at 5 of the best below (with one bonus spot!)

Mama Shelter

This rooftop had everyone talking before last winter's lockdown. Mama Shelter, a hotel and restaurant, also possesses a gorgeous roof terrace, complete with a bar, double deckchairs, tables, a pétanque court and even a corner reserved for table tennis.

The cherry on top is the glorious view and a retractable roof allowing the clientèle to bask in sunshine when the weather plays ball. The rooftop is open every day. Check their website for the exact times.

Skybar

At first glance you might not expect the Concorde shopping centre to house a delightful roof terrace. But Skybar might surprise you, with its lounge atmosphere and sweeping forest views. "Sitting on our terrace is like being on holiday," says owner Christopher Rahmé, and we cannot disagree. Skybar offers timeless and fun French cuisine in a chic setting.

The Skybar rooftop is open depending on the weather. The restaurant itself is open from Monday to Saturday.

Beet

Nestled away in the corner of Place Guillaume II , vegan restaurant Beet's rooftop hideaway may not be known to everyone, but is certainly worth the trip.

The cosy terrace offers an unbeatable view of the Knuedler and Luxembourg city hall. In addition, the current building work will be taking a break for the summer.

Find this little corner of paradise on Tuesday to Saturday, from 11.30am to 9pm.

Mu

Perched on the top floor of the Sofitel Grand-Ducal, Mu Luxembourg offers one of the best views of the capital.

High above the capital's rooftops and spires, you'll find a restaurant with international cuisine on offer, as well as a bar (l'Observatoire) with a large selection of beverages and cocktails to sip while you take in the panoramic views.

The only drawback here is the lack of sunshine, as the terrace is covered. However, given the Grand Duchy's occasional inclement weather (cough), this may well be a plus in disguise.

The rooftop is open daily between 10.30am and 10pm , in accordance with current hygiene restrictions (extended opening until 1am on Sundays).

Le Sud

For picturesque views of the Rives de Clausen, head to Le Sud, where you can sip a cocktail, peruse the winelist or smoke a cigar out in the fresh air if the mood strikes you.

This refined setting is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm to 10pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm except for when there's a private event.

Bonus: The Gudde Weather

RTL

Technically, it's not a rooftop... but de Gudde Wëllen is situated on the "roof" of the old town and offers gorgeous views to boot.

Sit back with a drink and admire the capital's ancient fortifications, the rives de Clausen, and the Grund.

The atmosphere may be a little more youthful than our other picks, but owner Ben Thommes says older clients should not be put off. The terrace is opened up in sunny weather for all to make the most of its beautiful surroundings. Find the bar on rue du Saint-Esprit.
