The train station in Bettembourg will receive a new flyover, a steel construction that has been produced in Germany.

Transportation of the flyover from Trier to Mertert is the biggest hurdle in the process. Due to the size of the individual pieces, they need to be brought in via ship, as the bridges on Luxembourgish motorways are too low to allow lorries to pass with the load.

After the ship has brought the 70-tonne load to Mertert, the pieces will be painted, before being brought to their final destination in Bettembourg. Over the course of the summer, the pieces will then be installed to finalise the flyover. After completion, the structure will include four different stair cases and lifts, which are designed to facilitate access to the train platforms.

The entire operation builds on a strict schedule, as the national railway company CFL has to close the respective tracks ahead of the installation. This means that all transportation and painting procedures need to be completed on time as to not cause further disruptions.
