Due to the pandemic and high infection rates, a number of comparable occasions already had to be cancelled, including the Whitsun fair of 2020, as well as the Easter fair this year. However, for the next two weeks, a small fair is finally taking place again.
Food and game stands are spread across four different locations in Esch-sur-Alzette, including in front of the town hall and at Place du Brill. A maximum of five stands are allowed at one location and visitors are obliged to respect safety distances.
For many it is the first fair in 18 months, which is why the city of Esch has decided not to charge rent for the stands this year. Usually, one booth may cost between €300 and €600 per week.
The fair is considered to be a test event, which will hopefully pave the way for a safe return of other events, such as the traditional Christmas markets.
The Whitsun fair in Esch will run until 6 June.
