Several projects have been presented by the authorities to increase the attractiveness of Luxembourg as a tourist destination.
In the short term, the 2021 edition of “Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz” targets residents of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, cross-border workers as well as foreign tourists in order to make them aware of Luxembourg’s tourist attractions. This campaign, which includes seven different projects, highlights sports, cultural, and gastronomic tourism.
“Lëtzebuerg, dat ass Vakanz” includes the following projects:
In the long term, the authorities intend to carry out an analysis of the “Rent a Bike” system in order to improve it and create opportunities for synergy.
One of the flagship projects in this area will be the upgrading of the former ship “MS Princesse Marie-Astrid”, the ship on which the Schengen Agreement was signed. The transformation of the ship into a meeting place offers an excellent opportunity for so-called “remembrance tourism”, one of the government’s priorities, which combines “three inseparable elements that have contributed to shaping the contemporary identity of the country": the world conflicts of the 20th century, the industrial heritage, and the creation of the European project.
While 56% of Europeans intend to go on holiday in a foreign country in the coming months, the number of people interested in travelling to Luxembourg amounts to 2.4 million in Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands alone.
Minister for Tourism Lex Delles stressed that Luxembourg can meet this demand thanks to the quality of its tourism offer, and that not only in the field of nature activities, such as hiking and cycling, but also thanks to the specific accommodation that can be combined with them.
In addition, Delles added, the Grand Duchy has a good image on social networks and a good reputation for health and safety.
