What began during the Covid-19 pandemic as a gesture of solidarity towards residents and staff at retirement homes, hospitals, and other social institutions has since grown into a widely anticipated annual event. As in previous years, farmers decorated their tractors with Christmas lights and ornaments, with music accompanying the tractors as they pass through towns and villages.
On Boxing Day, families lined pavements and balconies, waving and filming as the illuminated tractors rolled by, underlining how firmly the tour has embedded itself in Luxembourg’s festive calendar.
This year’s parade saw participation from eight regions: Clervaux, Diekirch, Fouhren, Centre, South, Grevenmacher, and Upper Sûre. The first tractors set off at around 4.30pm, with multiple routes across the Grand Duchy from Troisvierges in the north to Esch and Belvaux in the south, and from the Moselle to the Ardennes.
