The Luxembourgish professional cyclist Claire Faber was hit by a car and seriously injured during a training session on Wednesday. Team boss Andy Schleck confirmed the news to Tageblatt. The young athlete was operated in light of the accident and is now responsive again.

Faber suffered fractions to her rips, jaw, and collarbone. Her cousin Pol Zimmerman confirmed the injuries to reporters from Tageblatt.

According to RTL sources, the accident occurred around 1.15 p.m. on the N31. Faber is likely to have been cycling from Kayl in the direction of Esch-sur-Alzette when she collided with the car.

Faber was due to compete in the Tour Elsy Jacobs on Friday.
