CSVSocial and environmental policies are at the heart of the conservative party: Claude Wiseler

RTL Today
The newly elected president of the Christion Social People's party was a guest at RTL Radio on Monday morning.

Despite not being planned, my candidacy was welcomed, Wiseler stated during the interview: “I will not shy away from this responsibility.” The politician further elaborated on why he believes he will actually enjoy the position and feel challenged by the opportunity to contribute more to his party.

It is clear that CSV wants a reset, Wiseler noted. In that process, he sees himself more as the coordinator of a team rather than the man in charge. He underlined that he only ran for position knowing that he would work with people he trusts and has already established a working relationship. The internal renewal thereby relies on the contributions of both young and experienced party members.

When asked if too many cooks could spoil the political broth, Wiseler emphasised that the party’s identity can only emerge from the ideas of its members.

Wiseler was reluctant to go into detail about past controversies in the Christian Social People’s Party. He did however emphasise that party officials were legally obligated to alert the prosecutor’s office to former president Engel’s alleged misconduct, and that he stands behind the decision. At the same time, he also expressed regrets over the way the matter played out. When asked about the possibility of a new political movement launched by former president Engel, Wiseler replied that he is not concerned.

An audit of CSV’s finances has meanwhile revealed that there are no further irregularities. Once a full report of the situation has been established, the results will be officially published, Wiseler announced.

When asked about the political goals of the party, the new president underlined the importance of social and environmental policies, which he believes to be at the heart of the conservative party.
