The event, referred to as the 'Joyous Entry', dates back to the Middle Ages and is intended to reflect the connection between the monarchy and the public. In Luxembourg, the tradition has been upheld for decades, with similar visits carried out by Grand Duke Jean in 1965 and Grand Duke Henri in 2000.

Grand Duke Guillaume and Grand Duchess Stéphanie began their 2026 royal tour in Esch, arriving by train at Belval station.

The Grand Ducal couple then proceeded to greet the public awaiting their arrival outside the station.

Coordinated by the municipality of Esch in collaboration with other municipalities, the programme will showcase both the region's heritage and its current development projects. The visit marks the first stop in a wider tour, with the couple scheduled to travel to five locations across the country.
