Around 20 employees and ex-employees of the investment bank told Bloomberg that they had witnessed harassment or even experienced it themselves.
"Harassment Allegations and Fear Haunt European Investment Bank": This is the title of a Bloomberg article, which includes reports on disturbing cases of employees committing suicide within the bank itself, allegedly due to the toxic work environment at the financial institution.
Bloomberg spoke with around 20 employees and ex-employees of the Luxembourg-based European Investment Bank (EIB) and all of them confirmed that they had witnessed harassment or even experienced it themselves. Some spoke of "inappropriate comments" or "sexual advances". Half of them admitted that they had thought of taking their own lives.
The EIB stated that there is no evidence linking the suicides to problems at the workplace.
Following the Bloomberg report, the responsible commission of the European Parliament has stated that it would discuss the situation at the EIB in a meeting this week.
