The initial deadline of 31 December 2020 had already been extended by four months, with the current expiry date set at 18 April 2021. Now, with only one month to go, only 107,198 vouchers have been used, or 15% of the total, according to data by the Ministry of Tourism and reported by Paperjam.
François Koepp, the Secretary General of the Horesca Federation, has already called on the government to extend the validity until at least the end of summer, or even better until 31 December 2021.
The problem at present is the closure of the hospitality sector, meaning that guests staying at hotels without a restaurant will have to sit in their room with take-away meals. Koepp therefore argues that the voucher validity be extended to allow for such restrictive measures for eateries.
Château d’Urspelt, the Mondorf Parc Hôtel and the Leweck Resort were at the top of the list of where vouchers were used, corresponding to leisure and relaxation destinations.
