On Wednesday, the Ministry of Social Security announced that a new legal framework for the coverage of psychotherapeutic treatments has been created.

Thus far, therapy costs have not been eligible for reimbursement. However, a new legal basis was published on Tuesday, which revises the regulations of the National Health Fund (CNS) and of the psychotherapist association (FAPSYLUX).

CNS and FAPSYLUX have been negotiating the issue for the past three years. Following a meeting in December 2018, a draft law was created and passed by the government council almost a year later in November 2019. The state council finally accepted the document in November 2020.

The legal basis was praised by representatives from FAPSYLUX, who appreciate that psychotherapists have been awarded autonomy. Nevertheless, at this stage it is not yet clear when the reimbursement of therapy costs will come into effect.
