Luxembourg CityPolice record 1,900 offences in two months

RTL Today
Between November and December, about 1,900 offences were recorded in the capital, 275 of which took place during the curfew.

Minister of Internal Security Henri Kox specified that in 2020, there were fewer cases of night-time delinquency than in previous years, when there was obviously no curfew.

MPs Fernand Kartheiser and Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr), had submitted a parliamentary question to find out if more crimes had been committed and if the work of the police is more difficult due to people walking around in masks.

Wearing a mask, comparable to wearing a scarf, cap, and hood during the winter months, would have a “negligible” influence on police work, writes Kox.

However, the minister did not conceal the fact that the number of offences increased overall in November and December compared to previous years. As mentioned above, 1,900 offences were recorded in two months, which is 200 more than in 2018, for example.

This increase can be explained by a significant increase in drug-related offences, which the police are pursuing more intensively on the ground in Luxembourg City.
