Since 2012, the Dutchman has been owner of the camping site "Op der Sauer" in Diekirch, where he also runs a restaurant.

Veldkamp has been an active member of the Luxembourgish Horesca sector for decades, but has never experienced a time as straining as that of the pandemic. Only three of his ten employees remain currently in his service.

To bridge the gap until the sector is allowed to reopen again, Veldkamp's restaurant is offering both lunch and dinner for take-away. He explains that this allows the business to maintain parts of its usual operations and keep some amount of revenue. Nevertheless, dissatisfaction with the closure of the sector is high.

Government subsidies came in late, Veldkamp laments. The sector is willing to increase safety measures, as long as businesses are allowed to finally reopen come 1 February.
